ESL European Go4 Cup #10 Results

12/8/2015

December’s Project CARS eSports action is underway with the 10th ESL Go4 Cup kicking off the competition. This month, the drivers have to rise to the challenge of new machinery. The community voted to decide the new car class for December’s ESL races, with Formula Gulf 1000 coming out on top.

The Formula Gulf cars are single-seater, open-wheel cars. They are extremely lightweight and powered by a 1000cc motorcycle engine, making for incredible acceleration combined with tremendous agility through the corners. They require total commitment from the driver to maximise their performance, and a gentle touch through the wheel and pedals because they lack the driver aids the some of our competitors may be used to from the GT3 machines used in previous Go4 Cups.

As always, the drivers were competing for a €150 prize fund, and the chance to collect some all important monthly ranking points. At the end of the month, the Top 8 drivers will be invited to compete in the December ESL Monthly Finals for a total prize pool of €450!

We had some familiar faces on the first PS4 Formula Gulf podium. It was a fantastic start to December for current SMS-R Driver Network Championship leaders, Team Shark Racing. TSRacing_Atho, who also leads the drivers standings in the SMS-R, picked up the PS4 Go4 win with a typically smooth drive. His fellow Frenchman, DriverR1 came home in second, continuing the close battles that these drivers shared in November. Germany’s ockerocker, a regular Go4 podium finisher, picked up another third place.

There was disappointment though for one of the big eSports teams. STD-RS managed a podium in the last cup of November, so expectations were high coming into the first Cup of December, but driver SmOky_FR could only make it as far as the Quarter-Finals this week, where he was knocked-out by DriverR1. That means that your early PS4 leaders in December are TSRacing_Atho, DriverR1 and ockerocker.

It was a fantastic result on Xbox One this week, with two new faces on the podium. BMW330CD73 took his first ever Go4 Cup win with an awesome drive that makes him the man to beat in the Formula Gulf on XB1. We also had the first ever podium finish for a UK driver in an ESL Project CARS event! Troyfmcg did a superb job to take this accolade. It was made all the sweeter for him by beating Project CARS Creative Director, Andy Tudor in the Quarter Finals!

Third place on Xbox this week went to Slux PSY2PAC. Team Starlux will be very pleased to get back onto the podium and this should give them great encouragement for the rest of this month’s cups.

Elsewhere, it was a very difficult weekend for UNITY. This eSports team have been the real stars of the show on XB1 in recent weeks, but they had an off-day on Sunday, perhaps caught out by the switch from GT3 to Formula Gulf. Drivers SpeedFire, HEROIK, Nando & Barbarxxl were all knocked out by eventual podium finishers and no UNITY drivers got past the Quarter-Finals stage. It was a hard week for the team, but you can be sure that they will come back fighting next week!

In contrast to the new faces on the XB1 podium, the PC results had a very familiar feel to them this week, despite the big change in car class for Cup 10. Poland’s khaki took the win, followed home in second by USSRxALeXeR, who has rediscovered some consistency in the last two Cups, after a couple of tricky races weekends for the once dominant driver from Ukraine. Third place went to Papand from Norway, another top driver from the Project CARS PC scene.

These three drivers have proven that they are fantastic all-round racers after coping incredibly well with the switch from the GT3 tin-tops to the open-wheel, open-cockpit Formula Gulf cars. It’s going to be a serious challenge for the other PC drivers to disrupt their momentum, but we’re looking forward to seeing someone rise to the occasion in the next Cup!
The November Go4 Monthly Finals will take place later this week. The Top 8 players from each platform in November will compete for a total prize pool of €450! They will be contacted directly by ESL staff to confirm their participation in this event.

The next ESL Project CARS open tournament is the Go4 Cup #11 on Sunday December 13 with a €150 prize fund!

Don’t forget, you can now vote for the circuit you want to race at in the next event. Please visit the ESL Project CARS forums to make your choice! and for more information about the ESL Project CARS Go4 Cups and to register to race, please visit the ESL website for the platform you play on.
