ESL Go4 Cup #15 Results

1/11/2016

Project CARS eSports was back once again this weekend, with another ESL Go4 Cup. This time our drivers crossed the Atlantic to New York state in the USA and the beloved Watkins Glen circuit. The drivers are beginning to settle back into their rhythm now as 2016’s action gathers pace with many new names appearing alongside top Project CARS eSports teams like Team Shark Racing, SDL Motorsport and STD-RS.
Though the cars stay the same this week, with the Formula Gulf 1000, Watkins Glen offers up a very different challenge to last week’s races at Zolder. The Glen is an incredibly high speed and very bumpy circuit, with plenty of sections that challenge the downforce of these little open-wheel cars. The drivers all had to run right on the limit to maximise their car’s performance here. This opened the door for the established dominant drivers to be challenged by many new faces, throwing up some fascinating results.
As always, the drivers were competing for a €150 prize fund, and the chance to collect some all important championship points. At the end of the month, the top 8 drivers with the most points on each platform; PC, PS4 & XB1, will be invited to compete in the January ESL Finals for an additional €450 of prizes!

We had a new winner on PS4 this week! Last week we mentioned that it’s been a real thrill for the SMS staff to see more and more drivers from our home country of Great Britain driving well in ESL events. This week we were treated to a winner as the UK’s ralphy0502 took home first place at Watkins Glen on PS4. STD-RS’ Sm0ky took second and his equal best finish so far in his Project CARS eSports career. There was disappointment for TSRacing’s Atho who dropped from a win last week to only finish third this time around. However, his fellow Frenchman and biggest rival, DriverR1 was knocked out in the quarter-finals by ralphy0502, so there was some consolation for Atho, who remains the favourite to finish top of the pile on PS4 in January.

After near total domination from SDL Motorsport on Xbox last week, the tables turned in Cup 15, with team Starlux finding some pace and some form to take a one-two. Slux M power raced away to the chequered flag, followed home by teammate, PSY2PAC. It’s Starlux’s second win in an ESL Project CARS event as the team continues to go from strength to strength. They even had a chance to fill the entire podium, but Slux J0K met his match against  GMSPromo and couldn’t quite hold onto third. GMSPromo is also our second British podium finisher this week! We’re looking forward to seeing more British names in these events, inspired by this success.

SDL may have missed out on Xbox One in Cup 15, but it was business as usual for this frontrunning eSports outfit in this week’s PC Cup. SDL Tuscan made it two wins in a row for the French team, which continues to perform at the highest level in both the ESL Cups and the Driver Network Championship. There was a terrific drive from STD-RS’ Sm0ky as well, coming home in second place to equal his best finish so far in Project CARS eSports. Yoohan24 from the Netherlands was third, becoming the latest new name to disrupt the establishment in the ESL Cups and prove that talent shines above all else in these competitions.
