ESL Go4 Cup #16 Results

1/21/2016

It was ESL Project CARS Go4 Cup time again this weekend! While we were hosting Brands Hatch Indy time trial events at the Autosport International show, our online eSports stars were battling it out on the longer Brands Hatch GP circuit in the Formula Gulf 1000.

With the SMS-R Driver Network Championship Final catching the attention of some of the big eSports teams at the weekend, an opportunity appeared for new faces to score some big points in the ESL races, and for some of our once dominant drivers to sneak back onto the podium in place of the major teams.
Brands Hatch GP is actually quite similar to last week’s venue, Watkins Glen. It’s a narrow track with plenty of elevation change and there are several corners where no one line is the correct option. This frees the drivers to experiment with the positioning of their car and opens up more overtaking opportunities than usual.

As always, the drivers were competing for a €150 prize fund - €50 on each platform - and the chance to collect some all important championship points. At the end of the month, the top 8 drivers with the most points on each platform; PC, PS4 & XB1, will be invited to compete in the January ESL Finals for an additional €450 of prizes!

With TS Racing focused on the Driver Network Final and Atho racing elsewhere this weekend, Frenchman DriverR1 was able to make his way back to the front and catch Atho in the overall standings. However, he didn’t have it all his own way and could only finish second behind Germany’s DrDrDD who scored his first ESL victory! Spanish driver, CoTiNhO also returned to the podium in third. However, the STD-RS eSports team could only reach the Quarter Finals with Sm0ky this week, as they too had one eye on the SMS-R Final.

January PS4 rankings after Go4 Cup 16:
  1. DrDrDD - 205
  2. TSRacing_Atho - 160
  3. ralphy0502 - 160
  4. DriverR1 - 135
  5. STD-RS_Sm0ky_FRA - 135

Unlike some of the other Project CARS eSports teams, Starlux has tended to put all of its efforts into the ESL races, rather than the Driver Network Championship. This worked out for them perfectly this week, with M Power taking victory for them in the Xbox Cup! Italian newcomer Dosed 1991 took a fantastic debut podium in second and also became our first Italian Go4 Cup finalist. The UK’s GMSPromo came in third, continuing the rise of British Project CARS drivers.

January Xbox One rankings after Go4 Cup 16:
  1. Slux M power - 220
  2. Slux PSY2PAC - 145
  3. GMSPromo - 140
  4. Slux J0K - 110
  5. SDL SoniK - 100

It was a great weekend of Project CARS eSports for the SDL Motorsport team. Not content with just competing at the sharp end of the Driver Network Championship Final, two of its drivers managed to put in outstanding drives in the Go4 Cup as well! Tuscan took victory in the PC Cup this week, with teammate Mangator in third. They were split by ESL Go4 Cup regular, TonyR who makes a very welcome return to the podium after some difficult weeks in recent outings.

January PC rankings after Go4 Cup 16:
  1. SDL Tuscan - 300
  2. khaki - 150
  3. SDL Mangator - 135
  4. Diego7Adi - 80
  5. Robinjohansson - 80
The next ESL Project CARS open tournament is the Go4 Cup #17 on Sunday January 24 with a €150 prize fund!
Go4 events consist of 4 or 5 weekly cups and a monthly final each month. The Cup Series is free and open to everyone and has €50 waiting for the best player on each platform. The weekly cups take place every Sunday and start at 19:00 CEST. All players earn ranking points to qualify for the Monthly Final where the winners on each platform will receive a $150 bonus!
Don’t forget, you can now vote for the circuit you want to race at in the next event. Please visit the ESL Project CARS forums to make your choice!
