Logitech Championship Series Round 3 Results

6/2/2016

Round 3 of the LGCS saw our top Esports drivers taking on arguably the most iconic race track on the planet - the Azure Circuit in Monte Carlo.

Occurring simultaneously with the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, the fastest Project CARS pilots hit the streets of the French Riviera in Formula A machines to take on the ultimate challenge of risk vs reward. The barriers await mistakes at every turn, turning minor misjudgements into catastrophic collisions whilst also rewarding bravery and precision as the drivers flow from corner-to-corner, not daring to hesitate on the brakes or when turning-in.

Azure Circuit is also one of the shortest tracks that we will visit in the Logitech G Championship Series. With such close competition between the teams and drivers, a tiny mistake on such a short lap can result in a lot of time, positions and points being lost.

CONSOLE DIVISION

Privateer driver, ElMister sprung into life in the Console Division this time around, taking victory with an amazing time of 1:09.740. It was a terrific lap, which summed up the bravery needed to master the challenge of this treacherous circuit.

Team Shark Racing was also on form as it looked to improve its position in both the team and driver standings in the LGCS. The team scored a double-podium, with Atho second on 1:10.061, and Yinato third on 1:10.455. Unity’s SmOKky came home just off the podium in fourth, whilst DaBomb330 of Team TBA scored the team’s best finish of the season so far, in fifth.

It was a surprisingly tough week for track-cutting on console. 11 PS4 drivers and 5 on Xbox One were disqualified for cutting the inside of Sainte Devote. 3 more drivers on each console were disqualified for jumping across the Nouvelle Chicane as well. Amongst those who were penalised at Sainte Devote, were a couple of PSF Racing’s drivers, including Series leader, Fab. Plus several team Unity drivers, and SoniK & Rossi46 from SDL Motorsport.

These corners do not have white lines marking the edge of the circuit, however the kerbs still remain part of the run off area and do not count as part of the track. Please see Section 2 of the Regulations, which states:

"For the avoidance of doubt the white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not."

Therefore, all drivers who had 3 wheels on the kerb, with no part of those wheels touching the tarmac, at Sainte Devote or Nouvelle Chicane had to be excluded from the results. You must keep 2 wheels touching the circuit at all times.

All this means that Team Shark’s Atho has taken the championship lead on 118 points, ahead of PSF Racing’s Fab in second on 95 points, with Unity’s GTurbo in third. In the team standings, Unity still leads but Team Shark is now level on points at the top. Both teams are on 271.

PC DIVISION

Over in the PC division, SDL Motorsport’s Mangator continued his spectacular start to the season to make it a hat-trick of consecutive wins, with a time of 1:09.633, the fastest of the weekend on any platform.
FinPro, one of our all-time best privateer drivers, followed Mangator home in second place, with a 1:10.016. This was the second time that FinPro has finished second to Mangator this season, and it was also his third consecutive podium finish. FinPro was the meat in an SDL sandwich too, as this round saw a brilliant first podium for another SDL driver, Yoohan in third.

Fourth place was taken by Speeddemon, who represents FAF Motorsport in the NCS. He popped up with his first points in the LGCS as a Privateer driver. SDL’s Masa had to settle for fifth place this time out.

SDL’s dominant start to the Logitech G Championship Series on PC shows no signs of slowing down at the moment. Consistency has been the key to its success so far this season. It will be fascinating to see how the dynamic of the season might change if the other teams and drivers can put together some stronger results in the coming Rounds.

Elsewhere, it was a tough difficult week for British team, CQR, with Magictap only able to reach 14th place, whilst CQR’s nearest rivals, Coyote Online Racing had claytonssv achieve seventh at Azure Circuit. pCarsPOL, another team battling for points with CQR, also had TomiKilos finish ahead of Magictap in ninth. Coyote Online Racing therefore jump up to 3rd place in the Team Standings.

This all means that Mangator maintains his lead at the top of the driver standings on PC, with 150 points. He leads FinPro, who follows close behind on 130, with Masa third on 117. There’s then a bit of a gap emerging back to the chasing pack, led by claytonssv in fourth on 78 points.

In the team standings, SDL Motorsport by Logitech G extended its big lead at the top. The team is already on 358 points, ahead of sister-team, SDL Motorsport by Hauppage, which remains on 142 after not scoring in this Round. Coyote Online Racing and Project CARS Polska lead the chasers, on 78 and 74 points respectively.
