This weekend, our Logitech G Championship car simulator series celebrated the majestic Italian Grand Prix, with some spectacular driving in the Formula A car at Monza - The Temple of Speed.
It was no surprise that we saw some astonishing pace, as Monza holds the record for the fastest track on the Grand Prix calendar, after Juan Pablo's Montoya's famous 2004 lap which saw an average speed of 262.242 km/h.
The Logitech G Championship is an open setup eSports competition, meaning that our drivers were free to tune their cars however they liked to maximise top speed along Monza's mega straights. Of course, this means a low downforce setup, which can make the middle sector of the circuit very challenging - especially in the tricky Lesmo corners and through the Ascari chicane. Even for the top drivers, the real difficulty is to hang onto the car in these technical corners, despite the low downforce needed to be fast around the rest of the course.
Read on to find out which teams and drivers put together the perfect laps.
On PS4 and Xbox One, Rotax made it back-to-back wins for SDL in the LGCS, narrowly beating his closest rival, Atho of Team Shark Racing. As a result, Rotax edges into the lead in the drivers standings, but only by a single point with three Rounds remaining. Rotax has more event wins than Atho this season, but Atho has arguably been the more consistent driver. This battle is going to go right down to the wire.
The rest of the top eight positions were shared by SDL and Team Shark drivers, as this long-running rivalry shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. Shark narrowly outscored SDL in-terms of team points in this round, but the positions remain unchanged at the top of the team standings. SDL leads Shark by 17 points.
Just outside the fight at the front, it was a good week for PSFRacing, who finished with three drivers in the points. Their secondary team also picked up a couple of points thanks to AxD in 19th place. Unity Elite Racing had two drivers in the points this week, though both were outside the top 10, whilst dofrer27 came in P15 for SRT.
Only one driver was eliminated from the Console results:
- CAR_ODB (Ghost laptime did not match leaderboard laptime)
In the PC Division, Mangator took his fifth win in seven rounds for SDL. He was followed closely by privateer driver, FinPro, who definitely seems to prefer the open setup competition in the Logitech Series, over the fixed setup racing in the NVIDIA Series. It was good to see him back on form.
Claytonssv took his first ever LGCS podium in third place, picking up some very good points for Coyote Online Racing. He's shown great pace all year long, and the Formula A clearly suited his driving style this week.
SDL had three more drivers in the top seven places, and continues to exert some serious dominance on the PC Division. The other points scoring teams this time out included ANBU Racing, Nova Racing Team and CQR Club.
The following drivers were eliminated from the PC results:
- arrow.46 (3 wheels off-track: exit first chicane)
- SDL Daytona (3 wheels off-track: inside first chicane)
- aurelien_65 (crashed: exit second chicane)
- Sgt. Malarkey (3 wheels off-track: exit second chicane)
