Week #4 of the Project CARS 2 ESL Go4 Cups took place at Donington Park. The British circuit is a fan favourite thanks to its high speed corners, blind crests, and the swooping downhill section at Craner Curves. As always, Actrollvision was on hand to watch all of the GT3 action in the PC Go4 Final, and lend his talents to the events in the commentary booth. Read on to catch-up with this week's racing.
It was an impressive start to the PC Final in Cup #4 as TX3 Storm seemed like he wasn't going to set a time in qualifying, but at the very last second popped himself onto pole. This was the start of an action packed race. Mangator of Team Redline got the start of his dreams (so it appeared) and headed up to top of the pack. He held Storm off for 6 laps until a spin by him saw Mangator gain some breathing room, only for him to be forced back into the pits for a drive-through penalty for a jump start. Cue VP_Isaac21 and TX3 Popsu, who threw everything at each other for the remaining 6 laps, with Isaac coming out on top. It was an absolute classic.
In addition to his Go4 Cup coverage, Actrollvision also brought us the latest round in his "Triple Threat" league, featuring GT5 races for beginners, GT4 races for intermediate drivers, and GT3 for the pros. This week all three leagues were at the Texas motor speedway. In the GT5 race it proved to be the beginning of a day of shocks. The championship leader could only manage 8th in qualifying, as Marshalljm picked up pole after a one-place-penalty for BluesBoy71. The gap was 0.001 of a second. Bluesboy71 got an outstanding start, and led from start-to-finish. Marshalljm piled on the pressure to no avail. In the end he made a mistake which dropped him to third, and handed mattfunk the second spot. The biggest drama was an issue with championship leader Raccoon21s wheel, which forced him to retire. BluesBoy71 was the Driver of the Day.
The week's next surprise came in the GT4 race. For once, Papano92 did not pick up the win. He was in absolute control until a collision with a back-marker just three laps from the chequered flag, which handed the win to Rienko2, but Papano92 held on with serious damage to take second. The returning Proof1992 picked up the final step on the podium. Rienko2 was the Driver of the Day in GT4.
There was yet another big surprise in the GT3 race, as DriverR1 of the esports+Cars team failed to win for the very first time this season. After DriverR1 took pole, another win looked like a formality, but after turn 1 and a fantastic start by DzsCatfish, DriverR1 was in second. We enjoyed 28 minutes of bumper to bumper action, and DriverR1 finally made the move, albeit a slightly forceful one, which was out of character for the McLaren WFG finalist. However, his wheel then developed an issue, which handed DzsCatfish a deserved win. Both of these guys are a credit to the league, and were separated by no more than 0.8 seconds throughout the race. FRY-DIZ picked up his first podium in a damaged car, in another solid drive. The Driver of the Day was Borneo7 who took his R8 LMS up to fifth on this power-heavy circuit.
