This week it was the turn of Oulton Park, the UK's most picturesque race track, to host the weekly ESL Project CARS action in the Go4 Cup. Touring Cars continued to be the weapon of choice, and are definitely well-suited to the undulating, tight twists and turns of the Cheshire circuit, which of course has a great history of TC racing thanks to the British Touring Car Championship.
Oulton also hosted the GT5 battle in this week's Actrollvision "Triple Threat League" competitions. Read on to catch-up with all of this week's action, including on-demand videos of each race.
This was the eighth instalment of the ESL Go4 Cups in Project CARS 2, but only the second race in Touring Cars. Oulton Park is one of the ultimate challenges for any TC driver, and it brought us a great race. Oscaro continued their recent good form with a one, two, three on the grid after qualifying, with Rotax on pole. All three got a great until Toutouner of TX3 pushed Oscaro's Norbi into the wall at the chicane. This started a chain reaction which tangled almost half the field. Whilst the audience wondered if this would ruin the race, Rotax and M Power stepped up their game at the front, and gave us a great battle that with a gap that stayed as low as two tenths for half of the race distance. Rotax came out victorious ahead of M Power, while Team Momentum driver, JAAAAMMMMES scored his first ever podium. Rotax was the Driver of the Day.
Oulton Park was also the venue for this week's GT5 race in the Actrollvision "Triple Threat" league, albeit on the shorter, Fosters layout. Raccoon21 was looking for some redemption after a DNF in the previous week, and he knew that he just had to finish ahead of Tezh73 to wrap up the championship. Tezh73 had other ideas though, and he took a convincing pole position, and then led from start to finish. However, he only gained a four point advantage over Raccoon21 as he came home in second. So it's 11 points between them going into the final race. The battle for third in the series, and the final promotion spot to the GT4 class, saw MattFunk and MarshallJM separated by just half a point after this race, after MarshallJM got third spot and Matt could only muster sixth. Tezh73 was the Driver of the Day.
The GT4 race in the Actrollvision league took place at a completely different circuit, the free-flowing Zhuhai in China. Papano92 knew all he had to do was finish second to secure this championship. MrMahonii was the only man that could stop him, and he started well with a pole position. However, Papano92 drove out of his skin and after four laps made the move for first and never looked back. It was an incredible display from the Greek driver, who picked up Driver of the Day in the process. Bluesboy71 rounded out the podium for his third podium in as many races.
As if somehow inspired by this weekend's weather in the UK, the "Triple Threat" GT3 race this week was a chilly affair, with some snow thrown in for good measure. With the championship already decided last week, where DriverR1 claimed the prize, all eyes were on the relegation battle to avoid the drop into the GT4 class. Azaziel was second bottom in the standings before the race started, but he had the drive of his life in the snow to finish fifth and take a massive six points, as well as Driver of the Day. He moved out of the bottom three and into 11th place in the 16 car series. BLANKFILE was faultless in his display to win the race and all but guarantee third spot in the championship. The season finale will have six people battling to survive with only seven points separating them.
Make sure you join the racing action next weekend, and sign-up for the next ESL Go4 Cup.
