After two months of great competition between the UK's very best sim-racers, the Renault esports Series in Project CARS 2 reached a fantastic climax at the 2018 British Grand Prix. Spectators in the Silverstone Formula One FanZone were treated to a close contest between drivers from teams Veloce, OTL, and NGR. With Luke "Actrollvision" Crane on hand to entertain the fans, the racing began. The drivers battled it out in TCR, Clio Cup and Formula Renault machinery at our virtual recreations of the Nurburgring, Brands Hatch and Silverstone. All to decide who would walk away with a superb prize - a race school experience with PalmerSport, including the real Clio Cup racer alongside some other great cars. Read on for the results and some photos from the day.
The Veloce drivers, James Baldwin & BreMbo, came into the finals as the favourites for victory after some outstanding drives in the qualifying rounds, as well as the fresh inspiration of having recently joined the Veolce team after leaving F4H Motorsport. James put on a dominant display, winning multiple races in the finals after exuding a calm confidence throughout the day at Silverstone, despite the intense atmosphere generated by the unusual British heat wave. The two Veloce drivers battled closely in all of the day's races, sometimes perhaps a little too closely after they had some contact in race one, but it was James that left with the PalmerSport experience in his pocket. BreMbo's performance was also greatly impressive, and no doubt we will see more of both drivers in the future.
Third place went to OTL's "The Nemesis 69." He seemed to be one of the more nervous drivers on the day, but he shook this off to show great pace in his first ever esports final. Nemesis had to hold off a charge from NGR's Fraser on his way to the final podium place. In contrast to Nemesis, Fraser looked quite calm in what was also his first final, but his driving style was more aggressive with the wheel. Nemesis' extra bit of smoothness made the difference in the end, and helped him to take P3 ahead of Fraser.
