As we approach the conclusion of the SMS-R Driver Network Championship’s epic first season, it’s time to celebrate the amazing teams and drivers that have made it such an awesome contest.

This time, it’s the turn of SDL Motorsport, the team led by Kevin Leaune (aka SoniK) from France, who has been leading the championship for most of the season but has recently seen his gap tightened during the last few rounds...

How and when did you first get interested in sim racing?
We started out in sim racing with 2008’s Race Pro for the Xbox 360, but my personal passion for motorsport goes back to my father and the beautiful times we experienced in my karting career.

Which racing games did you play before Project CARS?
We have raced in many simulations such as rFactor, GT Legends, GTR 1 & 2, and the Forza Motorsport series.
With Project CARS, we loved the fact that studio developed the game together with the racing community. It’s also a pure simulation and we had been looking for that for a long time.
How do you prepare for each round of the SMS-R Driver Network Championship?
Our team performs several steps, first by learning the circuit, then learning the car and developing the setup together.

We all work together to identify our needs for the setup. We share our information and apply to that to our setups to give us a good performance. I want to make a call out to the community as well, because SDL is currently looking for new team members who can help us with our setups in the future.

How do you keep the team motivated?
Above all else, our team is a big family. We know our common goal. We also have some partners that we represent so we have to be efficient! I want to thank our partners including Logitech G, eSportify, Plantronics Gaming, Exclu Geek Box and Ligne de course.

Do you think that your team has a chance to win the Championship and what would it mean to you?
Our team is clearly capable of winning the championship, we proved that throughout the season. Now we just need to remain powerful!
For us, it would a big deal to win this title because we have given so much time and energy to it. We absolutely want it!

Have you raced any cars in real life?
Personally, I've driven in Renault Clio Cup and karts. The other team members have also reached a high level of karting.
In-game, we love open wheel, especially Formula B and C! Then, like many other players, we love the GT cars.

What would you like to see added to Project CARS in the future?

We especially want to see Project CARS help to expand sim racing eSports, so that our team can grow through the game. All sim racing teams deserve their place in the eSports circuit.
We would also like a livery editor, and a way to more easily share setups between team members directly in the game. Being able to view to leaderboards on the web would be nice too.
