It’s Week 2 of the December ESL Project CARS Cups, with this week’s action headed to the UK and the undulating Donington Park GP circuit, famous for one of Ayrton Senna’s most legendary triumphs. The car once again was the Formula Gulf 1000 single-seater which will be used for all of December’s ESL races. The drivers have already had one race weekend in this tricky and twitchy open-wheel machine, so the challenge this time was to put that experience to the test and improve their pace to keep up with the competition.
As always, the drivers were competing for a €150 prize fund, and the chance to collect some all important championship points. At the end of the month, the Top 8 drivers with the most points on each platform; PC, PS4 & XB1, will be invited to compete in the December ESL Finals for another €450!

Frenchman, DriverR1 returned to the top step of the ESL podium this week and asserted himself in the battle for Finals places once again. His closest rival, Team Shark Racing’s Atho, couldn’t quite match the pace of the other drivers and found himself finishing off the podium in fourth, opening the door for DriverR1 to take the lead in the points standings for this month.
It was a triumphant return to ESL action for Alexx545, who bounced straight back into second place in Cup 11, after missing a few races in recent weeks. It was fantastic to see our 2015 Paris Games Week champion back where he belongs. ockerocker pulled out another solid performance as well, quietly picking up more good points in third place once again. That means that the PS4 overall top 5 for December currently looks like this...

XBOX ONe
Cup 11 on Xbox One was the first time that an ESL event has been dominated by SMS-R Driver Network Championship teams. SDL Motorsport joined the action this week, fielding multiple cars in the ESL Cups for the first time, with some remarkable results. SDL SoniK & Rotax pulled off an amazing one-two finish for the team in what was the debut ESL appearance for both drivers! Starlux also came out in force, making it to third with Slux M power and fourth with PSY2PAC. This just goes to show how incredibly high the standard has been in the SMS-R season, that teams from that series can also come and be successful in the ESL scene.
The only unfortunate moment for SDL came early on when SDL Mihalo, an ESL Project CARS favourite, was drawn against teammate, Rotax and knocked out. If they hadn’t been drawn together in the early stages of the Cup, there was a real chance that SDL could have filled all three podium places.

PC
On PC this week we had a new winner! Clony from France took first place at Donington ahead of several more experienced drivers, upsetting the order and blowing the points standings on PC wide open. Poland’s khaki will be disappointed to come second to a newcomer, but no doubt he will also hope that this is nothing more than a blip in his recent run of dominance which goes back to November’s events. SDL was out in force again on PC too, with a debut podium for SDL Mangator in third place.
The shock of the Cup though was USSRxALeXeR failing to get past the round of 16. A hugely uncharacteristic early defeat for the driver from Ukraine. TonyR suffered a similar fate as well, beaten by SDL Mangator in the quarter finals. It was a really tough week for some of these top drivers, so it’s all to play this month to decide the top 8 drivers who will go through to the December finals.
