April’s Project CARS Esports competitions continued at full-speed this week, with the last ESL Go4 Cup before the start of the 2016 Driver Network season. Therefore the latest ESL Cups were a big chance for the teams to sharpen their skills before Round 1 of the Logitech G Championship Series gets underway on April 15.
This week we headed back to California in the USA and to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. A notorious, narrow circuit with blind crests, steep hills and that infamous Corkscrew corner. The drivers were in GT4 class machines once more, making for a tough challenge at Laguna. Spotting your apexes early is crucial around this place. If you get your car’s positioning wrong by just a couple of feet, or transfer its weight at the wrong moment then you’ll find yourself with a one way ticket into the sand or into a wall.
As always, the drivers were competing for a €150 prize fund - split into three €50 prizes, one for the winner on each platform. At the end of April, the top 12 drivers on each platform will be invited to race in the monthly Final for an additional prize fund of €450!
We saw yet another big performance by DriverR1 this week, notching up another win with a great drive. Teams SRT and RSP were both on the podium too, but the Esports sides still can’t shift DriverR1 from the top step. His remarkable run goes on once again. Chuckno33 was solid to take second place for SRT and it was pleasing to see yet another new face on the podium with ArkKiE in third for RSP. This week’s Cup also saw hot-lapper and tuner extraordinaire, Zakspeed_TV racing in his first ESL event. He did a good job to come home 6th in the Final and will surely improve as the weeks go by. | It was a very strong week for SDL Motorsport on Xbox One, as M power took victory ahead of Rotax to give the French team a one-two finish. Virtual Drivers by TX3 bounced back onto the podium too with Loucaw in third. SDL has been a little bit inconsistent in the Xbox Cups of late, but a one-two this time out certainly will give its console team plenty of confidence ahead of Round 1 of the Logitech G Championship Series, which gets underway this Friday. | There was a big result on PC this week as team BAM returned to the top step of the podium thanks to khaki. The Angels of Death Clan also continued its good form with a second place finish for ph33rz. Though he will be disappointed that he couldn’t achieve back-to-back wins for the team. SDL Motorsport returned to the PC top three as well, with a good drive from Mangator. However, with the new Driver Network season on the horizon, SDL’s PC team would probably like to be a little closer to BAM at the moment, as its rivals are just beginning to build some important momentum at a crucial time. |
