ESL Go4 Cup #18 - Results

2/1/2016

This weekend it was the final round of January’s ESL Go4 Cups. This time the drivers headed to Spain to test themselves against the long, sweeping bends of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. It was also the final outing for the Formula Gulf 1000 car, as voting is now underway to decide the car class that the drivers will switch to in February’s Go4 Cups. GT4 is currently leading the vote.
Back to Barcelona though, and the Formula Gulf presents some unusual headaches for the drivers around this circuit. The car’s open-wheel shape and large wings make it a great match for the long, fast corners that dominate most of the track. However, Catalunya also has two very long straights, in particular the start-finish, where the relatively small engine of the FG1000 will be straining with all its might! It’s critical that the drivers come off the final corner carrying as much speed as possible to maximize the time spent at top speed on this straight.

As always, the drivers were competing for a €150 prize fund - €50 on each platform - and the chance to collect some all important championship points. This was the last weekly Cup in January, so it would decide the top 8 drivers with the most points on each platform; PC, PS4 & XB1. They will then be invited to compete in the January ESL Finals for an additional €450 of prizes!

After several consecutive second place finishes, DriverR1 is finally back on the top of the podium with a great drive that will definitely restore his confidence. The rest of the PS4 action was blown wide open by THE_PILOT_CRAZY.

The Italian driver knocked out; ockerocker & CoTiNho, both drivers who would normally be in podium contention, on his way to second place. We also saw the emergence of another new team on PS4 this week too. RSP from The Netherlands achieved a debut podium with RSP_Gonzie24 and several other RSP drivers made it to the quarter final stage too. It was a tough week though for DrDrDD this week. He didn’t make very far at all in this week’s Cup, but his previous performances mean he still goes into the January Finals as the driver to beat.

The drivers going through to the January Finals on PS4 are:

1. DrDrDD
2. DriverR1
3. ralphy0502
4. STD_RS_SmOky_FRA
5. Nik_Makozi
6. TSRacing_Atho
7. ockerocker
8. neilfarmac

It was yet another big performance by team Starlux, with their second consecutive one-two finish on Xbox One. They finished in the same order as last week too, with M power ahead of PSY2PAC. Starlux is definitely the team to watch in the January Finals on XB1. We also saw a terrific first podium for team CQR's Magictap from the UK. He prevented total Starlux domination by keeping J0k off the podium. Elsewhere on XB1, teams RZ and UNITY fielded more drivers again this week, but the domination of Starlux stopped them in their tracks and they didn’t make it beyond the quarter finals stage of this week’s bracket.

This means the following drivers go through to the January XB1 Finals. It's shaping up to be a titanic battle between the Starlux and RZ teams.

1. Slux M power
2. Slux PSY2PAC
3. Slux J0k
4. GMSPromo
5. RZ Arness
6. RC John 02
7. RZ PUNISHER

8. RZ r2jz

SDL Motorsport, our recently crowned Driver Network Champion team, continued its stranglehold on the ESL PC podium in Cup 18. Tuscan won again, but Mangator went one better than his third place from last week to finish behind his teammate in second.

We’re expecting a big a big showdown between these teammates in the January PC Finals! This week also saw the arrival of Bono Huis into the ESL Project CARS scene. Huis is one of the world's best sim-racers. He is the most successful driver ever in the Rfactor Formula Sim-Racing World Championship, so it’s fascinating to see him doing battle with the likes of SDL. Third place at his first attempt in Project CARS eSports is nothing to be sniffed at and it will be intriguing to watch his progress in the coming weeks

The drivers going through to the January PC Finals are:

1. SDL Tuscan
2. SDL Mangator
3. khaki
4. Th3Pr0ph3cy
5. Yoohan24
6. TonyR
7. Diego7Adi
8. Robinjohansson
All of the drivers who have qualified for the January Finals will be contacted directly by ESL staff to make the necessary arrangements for them to appear in the Finals.

The next ESL Project CARS open tournament is the Go4 Cup #19 on Sunday February 7 with a €150 prize fund! This will be the first race with our next car class, which at the moment looks likely to be GT4.

Go4 events consist of 4 or 5 weekly cups and a monthly final each month. The Cup Series is free and open to everyone and has €50 waiting for the best player on each platform. The weekly cups take place every Sunday and start at 19:00 CEST. All players earn ranking points to qualify for the Monthly Final where the winners on each platform will receive a $150 bonus.

Don’t forget, you can now vote for the circuit you want to race at in the next Go4 Cup. Please visit the ESL Project CARS forums to make your choice!
