Donington Park was the venue for ESL Go4 Cup #20, the second Project CARS eSports event for February 2016. This week saw some some big changes in the CARS eSports scene, with some of the leading drivers changing sides as the biggest teams begin to headhunt the best talent in the build up to the 2016 Driver Network season.
On the track, it was GT4 class action once again, with Aston Martin, BMW, Ford and Ginetta all represented. This was the second Cup to use these cars, so the drivers are now getting used to how these machines handle, increasing their confidence and their speed as this month’s rivalries start to heat up.

Like last week’s venue, Laguna Seca, Donington Park is a challenging course with blind corners and lots of elevation change. This is a much faster track than Laguna though, so maintaining momentum from corner to corner is key to quick laps here. The famous Craner Curves are the most important and iconic section of the circuit. A sweeping, steep downhill sequence of rights and lefts that is flat out all the way. Master this section and you’re well on your way to conquering the course.
As always, drivers were competing for a €150 prize fund - split into three €50 prizes, one for the winner on each platform. At the end of February, the top 8 drivers on each platform will be invited to race in the February Final for an additional prize fund of €450!

It was great to see team Unity take a much-needed win in Cup 20, after some difficult races in recent weeks. Unity needed a new driver to pull this off though, having headhunted Gturbo from Starlux. Gturbo was arguably Starlux’s best driver, so he’s a big “get” for Unity in its push towards more success in 2016. Spanish privateer CoTiNhO went one better than his performance in Cup 19 to take second behind Gturbo, while DriverR1 was disappointed to find himself third this week after taking an awesome win last time out. Teams VP, RSP, Starlux, SDL and STD-RS all fielded extra drivers on PS4 this week, but with driving standards being so high, none of these teams could break into the podium to disrupt a familiar looking top three. | There were more driver changes on XB1 this week, as Starlux lost another of its top pilots to its rivals, with M power defecting to SDL Motorsport. It was a big week for M power too, as he took Cup victory on his debut with his new team. Starlux seems to have lost several of its best racers to its rivals recently. As the Project CARS eSports scene becomes even more competitive, we're beginning to see some serious headhunting of talent amongst the top teams. We have to give a big shout-out to Teddykart19 this week. The French driver rook a fantastic debut second place against some very stiff competition. It was good to see the BAM eSports team back in form as well, with a first ESL podium for BAM MuGeN in third. | PC also saw yet a big driver change this week, as Tuscan, who has dominated the recent ESL Cups on PC, has left current Driver Network Champions, SDL Motorsport to join BAM eSports. BAM is clearly looking to put together an elite group of drivers for the season ahead. Tuscan took another awesome victory this week, his first as a BAM driver, ahead of his former SDL teammates. Khaki, now an SDL driver, came home second, with fellow SDL pilot, Mangator in third. SDL’s progress will be interesting to watch in 2016. With other teams stealing some top talent it will be a big challenge for SDL to maintain its place at the top of the Project CARS eSports scene. |
